New Shared Use Lane and Bike Lane Connection to Erie Trail

The Town of Schererville will be installing a combination of shared use lanes and bike lanes in both directions, along 75th Ave. from Camden Way to the Erie Trail, just east of Burr St. Signage and lane markings will be installed so the public and motorists are aware of the lanes.  The purpose of the improvement is to help create a safe route for pedestrians and bicyclists to access the Erie Trail.  This will be Schererville’s first use of these lanes and markings, so we would like to educate the public on the proper and safe usage.  The area that will have these improvements is shown below:

Bike lanes will be used in locations where there are no to minimal driveways. Example of a bike lane and signage is shown below:

Shared lanes will be used where driveways are encountered to allow on street parking while still providing a safe route for bikes to share the road with vehicles. An example of a shared use lane and “sharrow” signage is shown below:

Please familiarize yourself with the layout and be aware of the upcoming changes to the 75th Ave. area.  Bicycle safety is of the utmost importance to the Town of Schererville.  Please be aware of the changes and watch for trail users and pedestrians.
