    Details

    The Erie Lackawanna Trail runs from Hammond to Crown Point and is part of the nationally recognized American Discovery Trail. The Schererville section is east of Burr Street and north of the Route 30 tunnel and sits on 14 acres of land and stretches for 1.2 miles. The trail is paved and has a rest area with shelters and benches.

    Biedron Park sits on 6 acres of land which includes open space and a small pond (fishing not allowed). Additionally, the park has a shelter, drinking fountain, and a tennis court. The court is also striped for two pickleball courts, players must supply their own portable pickleball net. An old windmill can also be found at the park.

    The Grimmer Tot-Lot is composed of a small play area with ADA Accessible playground for younger children. The 0.5 acres which the park sits on also includes some open areas for other kinds of play.

  • Pennsy Greenway Trail

    Details

    Following what was once a Penn Central railway route, the 14.5-mile Pennsy Greenway is a major regional trail that now connects two counties in two states (Cook County, Illinois, and Lake County, Indiana), from Lansing, Illinois (where it connects to the Burnham Greewnay) to Schererville. The Schererville portion of the Pennsy Greenway Trail consists of over 6 miles of paved trail, connecting to the Town of Munster to the north, extending thru the downtown area, and terminates at the Clark Street trailhead at the south boundary of Schererville. Parking and trail access is available from three parks, Plum Creek, Redar, and Rohrman. The downtown trailhead is located off of Joliet Street across from the Police Station and includes parking, bike racks, regional trail map kiosk, benches, a bike repair station, and jug filler. The Clark Street trailhead includes parking and a regional trail map kiosk. A separate parking area for the trail is also located off of Junction Avenue just north of the Town Hall. The trail is part of the Great American Rail to Trail that extends from Washington State to Washington D.C.

    The Perry Ferrini Dog Park sits on 3 acres of land in the southern part of Town, near the border of Crown Point. The fenced park has dog agility equipment, open areas for playing, a sectioned off area for smaller dogs, pet drinking fountain, shelters, benches, and a parking lot. A yearly membership is required for usage. Trace Park is located just across the street.

    The 9 acre Redar Park is near the downtown area on Austin Avenue and is the site for many community evetns. Amenities include a large brick shelter, comfort station, ADA accessible playground, a softball field, two basketball courts, sand volleyball court, drinking fountains and a parking lot. A ½ mile of sidewalk is around the perimeter of the park. The park also provides access to the adjacent Pennsy Greenway Trail and bike racks are available.

  • Plum Creek Park

    Located in a subdivision of the same name, Plum Creek Park sits on 8 acres of land. The park is adjacent to the Pennsy Greenway Trail and provides parking and access to the trail. A 1/2 mile, paved trail also is around the perimeter of the park. Facilities include a shelter, restroom, ADA accessible playground and swings, a half basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. There are also two tennis courts that are lined for pickleball using the tennis nets.

    The Prairie Estates Park sits on 1.5 acres of land. It has an ADA accessible playground equipment, a small shelter, and a drinking fountain. The paved Turkey Creek Trail starts at the park and runs thru the countyÂ?s Ivan Gatlin Nature Preserve, connecting to the Erie Lackawanna Trail at the other end.

  • Rohrman Park

    The 46 acre Rohrman Park is the second largest park in the Schereville system. It has a large ADA accessible playground and swings, restrooms, six soccer fields, a ballfield complex (four lighted fields, concession and restrooms), a large parking area, and drinking fountains. 1.5 miles of paved trail loops around the perimeter and thru the park. The Pennsy Greenway Trail is also located just across the street from Rohrman Park.

    The Rolling Hills Park occupies 7.5 acres of land. It has a shelter, an ADA accissble playground, a ball field, and a paved trail that provides access to the Erie Lackawanna Trail.

  • Saratoga Park

    Details

    Just off of St. John Road and 77th Ave., Saratoga sits on just .39 acres. The park has an ADA parking space off of St. John Road along with an ADA accessible playground and swings.

  • Schererville Skate Park

    Reiplinger Road and East Wilhelm Street

    Details

    The Schererville Skate Park was completed in 2015. Schererville Parks and Recreation worked with local skaters and similar sports enthusiasts in order to create a vision of what the future park would look like, given the resources and space available. The Pennsy Greenway runs adjacent to the skate park.

    Scherwood Park occupies 9.5 acres of land and is home to the Schererville Community Center. The Park Department�s administrative offices is located within the center. Adjacent to the center is a splash pad that was opened in 2023. A ½ mile paved trail runs around the perimeter of the park. A picnic plaza area with small shelters are located in the front of the park. The historic Hilbrich Log Cabin is also on site.

  • Stephen Park

    Details

    Stephen Park sits on 20 acres of land. Stretching around it is a .7 mile paved trail. The park contains a shelter, restrooms, an ADA accessible playground, two softball fields, nine soccer fields, drinking fountains, and a parking lot. There are also two tennis courts that are lined for pickleball using the tennis nets.

  • Tara Park

    Details

    The Tara playground is one of the first things one sees when entering the Tara subdivision. It sits on .15 acres of land and has an ADA accessible playground and shelter.

  • Adeline M. Kulik Park

    Details

    Located off of St. John Road, Kulik Park occupies 2.5 acres of land. The park contains an ADA accessible playground for 2 to 5 year olds, drinking fountain, and plenty of open space for activities for groups large or small.

  • Teibel Nature Park
    This 90 acre nature area is filled with an abundant mix of native plants and wildflowers that put on a show in spring and summer. The park is a favorite for bird watchers, with over 30 species sighted. There are parking facilities and ½ mile stone trails on both the north and south ends of the park. A shelter and bench overlook is located on the south end and fishing pond with fishing pier is can be accessed from the north parking lot.
