Mission Statement

“A dedicated team committed to serving the citizens of Schererville by fostering community unity and wellness through the provision of quality parks and programs.

From its start in 1989, The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department has striven to meet the needs of a growing community and its residents. Since then, it has developed into a department that operates and manages over 260 acres of land in 28 parks, including playgrounds, sports fields and courts, picnic shelters, paved trails, and our community center. Our vision is to continue to acquire, develop, and maintain parks and facilities for current and future generations to enjoy. Our goal is to provide leisure experiences that foster community unity, play, wellness, and stewardship while enhancing quality of life for all Schererville residents.

The Parks & Recreation Department has also grown from its initial offerings of summer youth programs to providing a variety of recreational and leisure activities throughout the year. We offer programs for the whole family and all age groups, ranging from early childhood to senior activities. In addition to our numerous programs, the department sponsors and conducts special events for the community such as the “Celebrate Schererville” Festival, Movies in the Park, Country-A-Fair, and many other seasonal celebrations.

We will continue striving to provide the benefits of quality leisure experiences for the public to enjoy. Remember, the benefits are endless!
