Refuse Collection Services
The Town of Schererville contracts out refuse collection. At this time the contractor is Republic Services and they can be reached by calling 219-662-8600. Refuse is picked up weekly for residents residing North of US 30 on Wednesdays and South of US 30 on Thursdays. One large item can be put out weekly for pick up. Extra bags will also be picked up if placed next to your tote. Leaves cannot go in the landfill and will not be picked up.
Wood/boards/carpeting must be bundled into 4ft/40lb sections and nails must be removed or pounded in for pickup. 2-3 bundles constitutes one large item. Drywall must be broken down into cart or construction bags not weighing over 40lbs per bag (max 5 bags per week). Items with Freon must have the Freon evacuated and papers provided to Republic Serivces before they would be able to pick up (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers).
There is a small refuse disposal area at our Public Works facility for Schererville residents with identification. Only common household debris is allowed. Public Works is not equipped to accept construction debris. Should you have a construction project such as roofs, siding, fences, decks, major remodeling, or concrete work you should have a dumpster on site for debris removal.
