How Do I

Trash Collection

2022 Recycling Schedule

The Town of Schererville does not collect refuse. Republic Services is responsible for the general town refuse management. Public Works staff only pick-up branches and leaves. Republic Services, the Town’s refuse contractor, will collect a limited amount of bulk items along with the regular pick-up. One large item per week (furniture, appliances, etc.) will be picked up. Please remember that all wood and carpeting must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled. Construction and demolition debris (not to exceed one yard) must be contained and not exceed 50 lbs. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers that contain Freon must be evacuated for removal. Before picking up any of these items, Republic Services must receive documentation that all Freon has been removed from the appliance.

There is a refuse disposal area at the Public Works facility.  This drop off site is for Schererville residents only.  Common household debris may be dropped off here.  We do not accept hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, etc…). If you have a construction project such as roofs, siding, fences, decks, major remodeling and concrete work you need to have a dumpster on site for debris removal. The Public Works site is not equipped to handle construction debris.  If you have any questions regarding these services provided by Public Works please call our office.
