Common Misuses of Car Seats: 

  • Seat moves more than an inch from side to side
  • Retainer clip is not at armpit level
  • Harness is not snug enough to the child                                        
  • Seatbelt is going through wrong belt path
  • L.A.T.C.H. system is used incorrectly
  • Child is too small or too big for seat
  • Harness is in the wrong slots
  • Car seat is more than 5 years old or been involved in an accident
  • Belt is going over the stomach and into the neck of the child
  • Child under 8 years old with no car seat at all.

90% of all car seats that are inspected by Child Passenger Safety Technicians are improperly installed.
